POMO TRAILS AND FOREST

Carpool at pullout for Gualala business directory just north of bridge at 9:50. Meet at Dard's (205 Screech Owl, Sea Ranch) at 10:00. It's East on Halcyon (North end of Sea Ranch) North on Deer Trail, West on Screech Owl.  Starting on Screech Owl, do entire Pomo Creekside Trail. Turn left on Deer Trail and walk until you catch the Pomo Hillside Trail.  As this trail exits to Deer Trail take the Badger Trail to the dirt road, turn left and after a few hundred feet take unofficial trail to right through the grass and over a flattened to the ground barbed wire fence to the county campground road. Turn to the right and walk to the campground. At the bottom of hill take unofficial trail heading toward river and explore this beautiful area. Reverse and start back. Cover the route taken inbound to dirt road, turn right to Post 152 turning left on Haversack connector trail.  Take it exiting on cul-de-sac which traverse turning right on Deer Trail.  Turn in on Pomo Creekside trail and return to beginning. Lunch at Dard's at the end.

PLANTATION TRAIL - BRUCE JOHNSON STUDIO

Meet at 9:15 at pullout for Gualala business directory north of bridge to carpool and at The Sea Ranch Lodge parking lot at 9:30.  Drive to the entrance to Salt Point Park on Sea View Road . Enter the park on the trail, turning right on the Plantation Trail when you come to it. Walk to Kruse Ranch Road, turn right and walk up the hill to Seaview Road and return to cars along the road. If we have been lucky enough to have a lot of rain we may modify this to a road hike on Sea View Road as the Plantation Trail can be muddy in winter. Afterwards we will drive to Bruce Johnson's studio where we will have a tour of works in progress and eat our lunches. Visiting Bruce has always been a treat in the past. We haven't visited him in almost 10 years and he has many new works in progress for us to see. To learn more:

AIRPORT ROUNDABOUT: FLY CLOUD, DEEP WOODS, SEA RIDGE


Meet at 9:45 at pullout for Gualala business directory north of bridge and at 10:00 at Jane Seck's house at 304 Spar Close. Turn on Annapolis Road from Highway One, left on Sea Ridge, left on Pilot's Reach, left on Spar Close. Start at the end of Spar Close; right on Pilot's Reach; right on Sea Ridge Road. Continue on Sea Ridge across Annapolis, where it becomes Timber Ridge. Walk Timber Ridge, Fly Cloud, Westgate Drive to Timber Ridge. Continue along the trail until Verdant View, cross Annapolis and turn right on the trail a short distance to Timber Ridge, where you turn left. Walk along Timber Ridge turning right on River Beach Road, to Deep Woods Drive, right on East Ridge Road to post 311, left on trail to post 313 left on Timber Ridge, right on Spring Meadow, left on Sea Ridge. Turn right on Pilot's Reach, then left on Spar Close. We will eat our lunch at Jane's house after we hike.

STORNETTA - POINT ARENA PUBLIC LANDS




Meet at 9:50 at pullout for Gualala business directory and at 10:00 at Anchor Bay (West side of Hwy 1) to carpool or at the entrance to Stornetta Public Lands where Lighthouse Road turns right towards the Lighthouse at 10:30. Walk the spectacular bluff toward the old Coast Guard Loran site (now owned by Mendocino Community College) seeing blow holes, sink holes, islands, waves and enter the new acquired public lands to view this spectacular spot. After we have walked about an hour, we will turn around and retrace our steps finding a suitable spot for lunch along the way. Note that much of this is cross country over undeveloped trails on uneven ground that has been grazed so you have to watch where you step.
