SEAVIEW ROAD AND BRUCE JOHNSON STUDIO

 

Meet at 9:15 at the pullout for the Gualala business directory north of bridge to carpool.  We will start at the home/studio of Bruce Johnson in Timber Cove. He lives at 31400 Sea View, east side, down a long graveled driveway which is where we will park (keep right as you go down the road). We will retrace our steps to the road and hike north to the "End of Trail" sign before turning around and walking back to Bruce's where we will have a tour of works in progress and eat our lunches. GUALALA ROAD to GREEN IRON BRIDGE and GAC HIKING TRAILS

Meet at 10:00 in back part of Gualala Arts parking lot. Walk the GAC trails before hiking along the road down to the bridge, and to the end of the county road and back. Eat lunch at the picnic tables at the Art Center admiring the stone walls. The Art-in-the-Redwoods show will still be up so people who missed it or want to see the art again without the crowds will be able to do so. There are some mild elevation changes on this sometimes shady road that follows the Gualala River. Hiking boots a good idea I think for the longer of the Gualala Arts Center trails as it is a forest trail.

Meet at 9:15 at pullout for Gualala business directory north of bridge to carpool and at The Sea Ranch Lodge parking lot at 9:30.  Drive to the entrance to Salt Point Park on Sea View Road . Enter the park on the trail, turning right on the Plantation Trail when you come to it. Walk to Kruse Ranch Road, turn right and walk up the hill to Seaview Road and return to cars along the road. If we have been lucky enough to have a lot of rain we may modify this to a road hike on Sea View Road as the Plantation Trail can be muddy in winter. Afterwards we will drive to Bruce Johnson's studio where we will have a tour of works in progress and eat our lunches. Visiting Bruce has always been a treat in the past. We haven't visited him in almost 10 years and he has many new works in progress for us to see. To learn more:

Along the way we visit the campground this time of the year. There are nice views of the Gualala River. We can eat our lunches at the Art Center at the end and view any shows in progress. You may have the opportunity to add to Harmony and Mary Sue's gratitude list as they try to reach 2012 things to be grateful for before the end of the year.

Gualala Point Park River Loop

While the group was enjoying the Gualala Point Park loop I was dealing with a different kind of Banana Slug.... this week and next I am helping out with Gualala Arts Summer Art Camp for Youth.  We have 82 children broken into 7 groups... tadpoles, mountain lions, banana slugs, etc.  We're having a blast and making some great stuff!
