ANNAPOLIS ROAD HIKE #1

 

Carpool at 9:15 at pullout for Gualala business directory north of bridge and at The Sea Ranch Business Center on Annapolis Rd at 9:30. Turn right before you reach the Fire Station. We can park along the cul-de-sac by the building supply.  Sea Ranch members please bring along extra hang tags for non Sea Ranchers. Park along side what was once the Old Hollow Tree Store across from the Sonoma County Maintenance yard at 32700 Annapolis Road (the future home of the Annapolis VFD.) Hike east along the road for about an hour hopefully reaching or passing the wonderful old Madrone tree and return. This is a chance to see the land as it once was and compare it with the parcels that have been converted to vineyards. There is some up and down on this hike, but this stretch is flatter than what comes before or after. We will drive to the Annapolis Winery after we return to the cars to eat our lunches weather permitting.

Park on the road that goes off to the left, Noce Rd. Hike on Annapolis Road to the Old Horicon School (2 miles) and and return.

Sea Ranch members please bring along extra hang tags for non Sea Ranchers. We will drive east on Annapolis Road and park across from the Sonoma County Maintenance yard at 32700 Annapolis Road. Hike east along the road for about an hour or until we reach the wonderful old Madrone tree and return. On the return we will take a short side trip to look at the Old Annapolis school and the cemetery close to it. When we get back to our cars we will drive to the Annapolis Winery to eat our lunches at their picnic tables. We can park along the cul-de-sac by the building supply.  Sea Ranch members please bring along extra hang tags for non Sea Ranchers.  Drive on Annapolis Road for about 5 miles from Hwy 1 turnoff.  Pass a sign for 37151 on right and then park on the next road that goes off to the left, Noce Rd. Hike on Annapolis Road to the Old Horicon School and have lunch on the porch there and return.

Hike on Annapolis Road to the Old Horicon School and return. Will eat lunch at the new Ranch Cafe (the old Two Fish Location) back where we parked the cars.

SODA SPRINGS RESERVE

Note: If there is heavy rain preceding the hike, an alternate hike may be selected by the leader.

Carpool at the pullout for Gualala Business Directory just north of bridge at 9:45 and/or at the Sea Ranch Annapolis Road Business Center at 10:00. Hang tags needed for non Sea Ranchers who park there to carpool. Park on Kelly Road 1 mile beyond entrance to Annapolis winery and hike to park. Hike on gravel road 2.3 miles to this 49 acre Sonoma County Park since 1994 (and known locally as Kelly Park) with lovely old growth redwoods and stream running by, plus being dog friendly with a toilet and picnic tables also. Lunch, tour the park, and return. From the Parks website: "The park is a perfect place to stop among your travels. Rest or hike under the fragrant shelter of redwood groves, while enjoying the soothing sounds of running water from the adjacent Soda Springs Creek. Amenities include picnic areas, restroom, barbecues, and hiking trails."

SKAGGS SPRINGS ROAD WILDFLOWER HIKE

Carpool at 9:40 at pullout for Gualala business directory north of bridge and at The Sea Ranch Lodge parking lot at 9:55. Start at MM 6 on Skaggs Springs Road (before Haupt Creek Bridge)at 10:15. We will walk along the road looking for wildflowers along the bank with views of the Gualala River too. How far we walk will depend on how many flowers there are to slow us down.  This area is shady in the morning and can be cool so dress accordingly. We will have lunch at Clark's Crossing under the bridge  or the Annapolis Winery (leader's choice).
