GUALALA RIVER TRAIL (SOUTH FORK)

Meet at 10:00 at the back parking lot of Gualala Arts to carpool and at 10:20 at The Sea Ranch Business Center on Annapolis Rd. Turn right before you reach the Fire Station. We can park along the cul-de-sac by the building supply.  Sea Ranch members please bring along extra hang tags for non Sea Ranchers in case we need to leave a car there. We will be hiking on a mostly shady logging road that starts near Valley Crossing and follows the south fork of the Gualala River south of Annapolis Road. The hike will be about four miles with lunch near the river at the half way point. Although it is mostly level, it is a bit uneven and we think boots would be a good idea. This hike is on private property (Gualala Redwood Timber) and it's a very beautiful, peaceful area.

This hike is our once a year hike on Gualala Redwoods lands and is a new suggestion from Henry Alden that we have never done before.  Meet at the back part of Gualala Arts parking lot at 10:15. We will carpool on logging roads (vehicles with high clearance best ) through Elk Prairie to our starting point and then hike along a road that follows the North Fork of the Gualala River so will have glimpses of it from time to time. The hike will be mostly shady and relatively, but not completely, flat. We plan to have lunch at Peach Tree Flat, an area that is open next to the Gualala River (http://gualalawatershed.wordpress.com/2012/03/09/peach-tree-flat/) and will have an opportunity to see how Gualala Redwoods has modified roads to prevent runoff and added large pieces of wood to the river to create pools for fish.

We will drive to Valley Crossing and park past the second bridge. We will be hiking on a mostly shady logging road walking north on the south fork of the Gualala River to Buckeye Creek where we plan to go down to the river for lunch and then return. This hike is mostly level, about five to six miles total. It's a little longer than our usual hikes but not hard walking.  Hiking on Gualala Redwoods land is usually very peaceful as we rarely encounter anyone and have a feeling of being in the wilderness. This is our once a year hike on their land.
