FISK MILL BLUFFS

Meet at 10:00 at pullout for Gualala business directory north of bridge to carpool and at The Sea Ranch Lodge parking lot at 10:15. Start at 10:30 at Fisk Mill Cove (MM 42.63) in Salt Pt. State Park. Park in north parking lot near restrooms. There is now a parking fee to park here so people with passes should bring them. Hike north on the parking lot road to catch the trail to Sentinel Rock. From there take the bluff trail south and hike unbelievably beautiful bluff south to Stump Beach. Don't descend, but turn around and hike back. Lunch will be on some large flat rocks where Phillips Gulch Creek cascades over the bluff. Since we will be crossing two creeks with steep sides, and since there is still a dangerous spot along the trail that has washed out, walking sticks are advisable and good boots. Dogs are not allowed on the Salt Point trails.

Starting time is about 10:00. We will take the trail through the grass and then turn south. We'll cross over on the rocks by the first gulch and find the trail that passes Sentinel Rock. From there we'll  take the bluff trail south and hike this unbelievably beautiful bluff  for about an hour. Before we get to Stump Beach we will turn around and hike back. Walking sticks are advisable and good boots since there isn't much maintenance these days on the trails and there are some uneven areas and potential crossings. We have a number of interesting choices for a lunch spot and the final spot will be determined by the leaders and those present. Dogs are not allowed on the Salt Point trails.

Meet at 10:00 at pullout for Gualala business directory north of bridge to carpool and at The Sea Ranch Lodge at 10:15. Park at MM 44.00 at Salt Point. The turnoff is tricky; turnoff at MM44 even though the sign says Turnout 1/4 mile. This hike is quite steep in places so hiking sticks and boots are recommended. Hike on the trail staying right at the fork until you go over the crest of the hill and have a beautiful view of Horseshoe Cove. Descend sharply until you reach the Bluff. Walk south along the bluff until about 11:30 and retrace your steps until we reach a magical rock formation for lunch. The return to the cars after lunch will be uphill, but this is a gorgeous spot so worth the effort.

Today we had special guest and friend of Mary Sue, Nhu join us from Berkeley.  We ate at the top at Sentinel Rock.  It was a diamond day -- sunny with very little wind!

Fisk Mill to Stump Beach

I missed this week's hike again... but here's the report from Mary Sue and photos are compliments of Bob.  Thanks guys!

We started out with fog, but by the time we got close to Stump Beach the sun was out and the weather delightful. There were still late flowers: coast onions, sticky Monkey Flower, sump Monkey Flower, Lizard Tail, and Bluff Lettuce all were in good form.

We had lunch sitting on lichen covered rocks with a view of the ocean and a little stream with flowers.
