STILLWATER COVE #3

 Carpool at the pullout for Gualala business directory just north of bridge at 9:30. Hikers with County Regional Park passes should drive. Please carpool as parking spaces on the first part are limited. We will first hike the two bluff sections of the trail. Then we will drive to the day use area and park. We will hike through the beautiful forested canyon, cross a small stream, then up along the ridge until we reach the old Fort Ross schoolhouse and then through the Canyon and down to the Cove for lunch. Parts of this hike subject to change depending on the conditions. After lunch we'll return to our cars. Dogs allowed on leash and hiking sticks helpful for a few steep spots and river crossing.

We will hike through the beautiful forested canyon, cross a small stream (if there is still water), then walk along the other side crossing back and retracing our steps  until we reach the path to the Cove for lunch.  After lunch we'll return to our cars. Dogs allowed on leash and hiking sticks helpful for a few steep spots and river crossings.

We will hike through the beautiful forested canyon, cross a small stream, then up along the ridge and then through the Canyon and down to the Cove for lunch. This is a cell phone free hike so Annie Mills can join us.

Carpool at the pullout for Gualala business directory just north of bridge at 9:25 and at The Sea Ranch Lodge parking lot at 9:40. Hikers with County Regional Park passes should drive. Please carpool as parking spaces on the first part are limited. First we will drive to the day use area and park. We will hike through the beautiful forested canyon, and up the "dead end" trail and back and down along the river until the normal crossing spot. Due to the rains (and the bridge being out) we did not cross but retraced our path along the river and down to the Cove.  We returned to cars and drove north to hiked the two bluff sections of the trail.  Dogs allowed on leash and hiking sticks helpful for a few steep spots and river crossing.

HORSESHOE COVE--SALT POINT NORTH - RAIN CHANGE

PLANNED: Meet at 10:00 at pullout for Gualala business directory north of bridge to carpool and at The Sea Ranch Lodge at 10:15. Park at MM 44.00 at Salt Point where we will meet our leader at 10:30. The turnoff is tricky; turnoff at MM44 even though the sign says Turnout 1/4 mile. This hike is quite steep in places so hiking sticks and boots are recommended. Hike on the trail staying right at the fork until you go over the crest of the hill and have a beautiful view of Horseshoe Cove. Descend sharply until you reach the Bluff. Walk south along the bluff until about 11:30 and retrace your steps until we reach a magical rock formation for lunch. The return to the cars after lunch will be uphill, but this is a gorgeous spot so worth the effort.

STILLWATER COVE/PEACE OBELISK

Carpool at the pullout for Gualala business directory just north of bridge at 9:25 and at The Sea Ranch Lodge parking lot at 9:40. Hikers with County Regional Park passes should drive. We will be hiking in three distinct areas. First we'll drive south to visit the smallest state park in California, the 93-foot-high "Peace Obelisk" sculpture by the late Benjamino Bufano, a renowned San Francisco sculptor and to hike a few of the interesting trails that the Timber Cove Inn has created. Then we will drive to the day use area of Stillwater Cove and hike in the forest. One of the bridges has given out so we may need to ford the stream in two spots. We may see fringed corn lilies in bloom. Last we will  hike the interesting bluff section of Stillwater Cove and eat our lunches on the spectacular rock formation (think mushroom and cow) and then return back to our cars. Car pooling is important for this hike.

We will drive then to the day use area and park.  We will hike a beautiful forested loop, crossing a small stream, and perhaps seeing fringed corn lilies in bloom. After returning to our cars, we will drive south to the Timber Cove Inn where we will hike their trails, including a visit to the smallest state park in California, the 93-foot-high "Peace Obelisk" sculpture by the late Benjamino Bufano, a renowned San Francisco sculptor. The hike will conclude with lunch at Alexanders. They have a new chef so the menu on their web site as I send this out could change.
